Brighten your life

with RED, it's fun, cheerful and undoubtedly classic!! A little goes a long way, and for obvious reasons I love this color all winter long! I recently had a client paint her front door a shade of bright red! (I can't wait to see it!)
Wearing these Hunter Wellies in the dead of winter would certainly brighten my day! (Bee from Atlantic-Pacific always gets it right)

I will use nail-heads on a door one of these days!
Yes, Chiang Mai dragon is all over the place, but this chair looks amazing!

Take Me Away

WE all need to get away at some point in our lives, escape reality, relax, reflect and just not think about day to day stressors! I'm there right now, but I actually have too much to button up, so for a number of reasons I need to hold off on an escape. I'm wrapping up the paperwork for my impending divorce tomorrow, which is liberating but has also been mentally exhausting. I've had a few other curve balls thrown my way this Fall, but I've decided to face them head on and do something about it, instead of trying to change what I have no control over. My energy is now directed towards what I do have control over; my actions and thoughts! I am trying to focus on what is great right now and will at some point plan a get away, it may not be next month but it will happen! I will make it happen!! I came across this breathtakingly, pure escape via dust jacket attic today. This country get away is located in South Africa and is called Babylonsotren. The gorgeous landscape, clean design and freshly grown food all looks amazing. This destination has made it's way onto my bucket list! Hope all of your holiday preparations are going well..now back to work I go...

Mirror, Mirror

Mirrors within architectural spaces can either be done VERY right or VERY wrong.(think 1980's mirrored closet doors). I've found it's best to stick with antiqued mirror on walls. Mirrors brighten and beautifully expand space. Let's look at some fabulous examples shall we?
(I love the use of mirror used behind the fret work design on the closet and bathroom door above - the outcome is stunning!)
This mirror looks beautiful but I would have gone with an antiqued version myself!
I love the mirrored walls in this small city apartment
Glamour anyone?
This vanity is amazing! A nightmare to clean but fabulous none the less.

Hello there

Don't you just LOVE estate sales? I'm talking real estate sales here! The kind where you run around frantically in some potentially amazing (very rare in this area) mid century modern home on the water filled with fabulous finds and furniture!! I went to a great sale in a neighboring town last weekend. I wish I had thought to snap some photos of the cool and retro wallpapers' that were still in tact. Of course, I was a few hours too late and all the great furniture had been snapped up for NOTHING but I did walk away with this fabulous porcelain elephant head! His trunk is up, so I'm hoping he brings me some good luck!! It's been a crazy Fall of ups and downs, followed by what was an amazing Summer! I'm ready to get some of that amazing back!!! He's going to sit in the center of my dining table for now! Happy Wednesday!

au naturale

A naturally inspired color palette need not be boring! Contrast, texture, and pattern will truly make any look or design soar! (above - I love how effective the three zebra pillows are at grounding this entire room). tip: when something is looking flat: add contrast, it typically works every time!

the calm before....

You ask what does a single mommy of two little ones do to unwind? She visits Pinterest or blog surfs at 9 pm. I'm often too tired to do much after working all day and then getting the kids fed and ready for bed but some nights I need a mindless escape. I love to read but I usually can't get through more then five pages without drifting off to sleep. Tonight I came across this precious nursery while cruising through pinterest. The style is a bit more country inspired then I'm usually drawn to but I thought all the elements were precious. It's also so neat and orderly isn't it?
Keeping a 21 month old and four year olds' room clean and organized is no easy task!  Honestly, my son runs through the house like a hurricane. It's insane! This nursery is by designer Amy Meier, read more about it here.  Hopefully she'll have better luck then I usually do at containing the chaos. (ps. I should really be picking up my house right now, but there's always tomorrow night for that. ;) )

Framed Shel Silverstein Poems. I love this idea! I've always adored that polar bear...

thought of the moment

This is actually how I'm feeling lately, but there's just too much to manage, accomplish and wrap up in my life! Maybe a vacation in 2012? Hope your week is off to a great start!!
